Negotiating Your Salary

Those of you who have read my previous article will recall that I have a network for future careers. In this article we will explore the benefits of using effective negotiation skills for better terms and conditions once you get a new position with the company.

We will start with an example of typical situations in which you were offered a new position and you are meeting with the new employer to discuss salary. On May I tell you:

"I can see that from previous work that you were earning £ 25,000 a year. I felt it and I am ready to offer £ 30,000 a year. This is an extra £ 5,000 a year for you so that you can start ?"

At first this May sound like a generous offer, and most people will be very tempted to accept a job with a £ 100 a week pay rise! However, the salaries that the company had budgeted for £ 34,000. Taking this into account what you think the final result is, if you accepted the offer of £ 30,000?

A. You are better off by £ 5,000 from the previous job.

B. You have lost £ 4,000.

C. You have lost at least £ 4,000 for each year that are in your new position.

Although the extra £ 5000 initially seemed attractive now to think that would actually lose an additional £ 4000 and each year, plus any percentage increase each year plus any bonuses that may be related to the salary level increased by any potential pension opremu.Popis can be very important. Another disadvantage of the indirect intrinsic motivation for taking part if you find that other managers with similar grades to you in the company were actually at a higher salary for performing the same job! That's when you learn that a lot of money is a motivator to perform their job effectively, but it is certainly de-motivator if not paid the same as that of your colleagues, no matter how much you earn. It is therefore useful for you to teach you effective negotiation skills to get the best reward that was on offer.

According to the TUC website (tuc.org.uk/work_life/tuc-12819-f0.cfm) Britons put in £ 23 billion of unpaid overtime per year. If you are one of the many nurseries that contribute to this figure it can be more frustrating for you if you think that should be paid more for the work you do.

you can find different types of negotiation skills by using a career counselor (which can be very expensive) or searching the internet for any on-line courses available. Whatever option you choose, during your working career, you should be able to recoup its investment many times over.
